ICC Rankings: Aussies pose threat to India's number one rank
India are currently the number one Test team side in the world with 116 rating points. The Indian Test team faces a stern challenge against Australia in the upcoming four-match Test series, starting December 6, in Adelaide. The Test rankings could see a major shift if India suffer a humiliating loss against the Aussies. Here's more.
Advantage Australia ahead of the four-match series
The focus will now revolve around the four-match Test series. India lost both their away Test series this year against South Africa and England. Aussies will be confident to do the job against India at home. For the visitors, the idea will be to stop the hosts from making inroads. Australia know that they have a shot at the number one rank.
India saw reduction in points after defeat against SA, ENG
India had started the year with 125 points after a stupendous home run last season. They suffered a 1-2 defeat in South Africa and then a 1-4 loss in England. India slipped to 115 points, but held their number one spot. They gained one point in ICC Test rankings after defeating West Indies 2-0 last month. India are ahead of Proteas at the moment.
Rankings: India will need to avoid a whitewash
The stats suggest that India will need to avoid a whitewash. A result of 4-0 will see hosts Australia take the top spot with just 110 points. Australia are currently fifth in the rankings with 102 points. India could lose eight points and slip to second place. If India lose 1-3, then they will be atop with 111 points. Australia will rise to second.
