3 Indian cricketers who bounced back after initial failures
What's the story
Indian cricket has produced some absolute legends over the years. There have been many players from the country who have made the world salute their skills. While some players announce themselves right at the start of their career, a few took some time. On this note, we look at three Indian cricketers who bounced back after initial setbacks.
#1
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma's early international career was marred by inconsistency.
Despite his domestic success, he couldn't secure a permanent spot in the Indian team.
However, everything changed when he was asked to open the innings in ODIs in 2013.
This decision paved the way for Rohit's record-breaking career, including three double centuries and an ODI high score of 264 runs.
He also went on to become India's all-format captain and one of the greatest openers in the history of the game.
#2
Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as cricket's greatest batsman, also struggled in his initial days.
It took him 79 games to score his maiden ODI hundred.
However, instead of letting failures dictate his future performances, Tendulkar used every setback as motivation to improve and dominate world cricket.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, he became the highest run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs with 100 international centuries.
#3
Harbhajan Singh
One of the greatest off-spinners in the history of the game, Harbhajan Singh, wasn't exemplary at the start of his career.
His first eight Tests saw him claim just 21 wickets at an average of around 40.
Moreover, he did not play a single ODI for over two years after playing 13 matches in the format in 1998.
However, a stellar 2001 season, which saw him claim 87 international wickets, completely changed his fortunes.
Harbhajan retired with 707 wickets for Team India.
