There will be no All-Stars game ahead of IPL 2020

The much-anticipated All-Stars game ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been reportedly called off. The idea was earlier proposed by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. Last month, the former Indian cricket team skipper had confirmed that the charity match would take place just before the start of the main competition. Here are further details.

Franchises informed about cancellation of All-Stars game

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the BCCI has not announced the decision yet but the franchises have been informed about the same. The BCCI recently revealed the schedule for the IPL 2020 season but did not mention about the IPL All-Stars game which is a big indication that the game would not take place.

Reasons why the game has been cancelled

The report further stated that the details of the game were not thought through to the fullest. Another major factor behind the cancellation was the reluctance of the franchises who were not informed about the game before Ganguly announced it publicly. The franchisees weren't willing to let go off players fearing possible injuries. Also, teams wanted players to attend promotional events and training camps.

Monetary factor another reason behind the cancellation

One understands that there were monetary issues as well. There was no clarity over who would pay the players for the match. "It is at least not happening before the start of the IPL," an official of a south franchise was quoted as saying by the news outlet. When you look at the scenario, it is a wise decision taken.

MI to take on CSK in IPL 13 opener

Meanwhile, the IPL 13 season is set to start on March 29 with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. The final league game will take place on May 17.
