Choose World Cup over IPL: Cricket Australia to players

Cricket Australia has been wary about the schedule of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. With the ICC World Cup 2019 starting a few days post the IPL, CA feels its players should choose country over the cash-rich league. Several guidelines have been imposed for players participating in the league. CA will also not allow the players to feature after May 1.

Pre-tournament World Cup camp in early May for selected players

The IPL 12 is likely to be held from March 29 to May 19. However, Aussies selected for the World Cup are set to miss the IPL matches, which would be held in May. As per CA's directive, the selected players must attend a pre-tournament camp in May. This means several stars will not be seen in the most crucial stage of the league.

Australian players have a busy schedule ahead

Australian players, involved in the series against Pakistan in March, will have little time to adjust for IPL 12. Players, who would feature in the Australian ODI squad against Pakistan, will only be allowed to leave for IPL, after the series gets over. The series ends on March 29. That's when the next season of the IPL is expected to kick-off.

CA wants team to win hearts of fans

Post their Ashes victory, earlier this year, Australia are enduring a difficult time. And according to Cricket Australia's interim Team Performance Chief Belinda Clark, the interest lies in making Australian fans proud of this team. Several players, who need approval from the board to play in the IPL, will only be allowed after they complete their Sheffield Shield duties.

CA keen to have players fit physically and mentally

"We are working hard to ensure their health and match readiness ahead of what will undoubtedly be a huge year in cricket, while respecting the players' interests in playing in the various formats," Belinda said.

IPL 2019 auction to be held in December

Every year, several Aussie cricketers are part of the IPL but 2019 might be different. The IPL 2019 auction would be held next month with several players on offer. However, it remains to be seen how many Aussies, who aren't in a franchise at the moment, sign up for the auction. As far as CA is concerned, its move is well thought through.

IPL shifted to earlier date because of elections

The IPL is being brought forward keeping both the World Cup and the Indian General Elections in mind. Reports had come out that the IPL could be held in South Africa as the dates are colliding with the elections. Besides Australia, even England players chosen for the World Cup will miss out the action in May. Meanwhile, New Zealand players will be available throughout.
