Born on July 6, 1977, Makhaya Ntini is a former South African right-arm fast bowler, who has several records under his belt. Considered as one of the fastest bowlers of all time, he began his international career as part of the Under-19 squad of the South African cricket team against England. He made his debut in international Test cricket in March 1998 against Sri Lanka. Between 1998 and 2009, Ntini played 101 Test matches, took 18 five-wicket hauls, and maintained a bowling average of 28.83. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand, in January 1998. Between 1998 and 2009, Ntini played 173 ODI matches and maintained a bowling average of 24.66. In 2005, Ntini made his T20 International debut against New Zealand. Between 2005 and 2011, Ntini played 10 T20 matches. Ntini became the first South African player in 2003 to take 10 wickets at the Lord’s cricket ground. He rose to prominence during the 2005 match against the West Indies in the Port of Spain. During the match, he took 13 wickets for 132 runs, which became a record for the maximum wickets taken by a South African bowler in a Test match. In his career spanning 284 international matches, he took 22 five-wicket hauls. He retired in January 2011, during his last T20 international match with India.
