2nd T20I, Kiwis beat Lanka: Here are the records broken
New Zealand continued with their supremacy over Sri Lanka in T20Is. The Kiwis took a 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match T20I series at Pallekele. Batting first, Lanka scored 161/9 and that wasn't enough. New Zealand rode on fifties from Colin de Grandhomme and Tom Bruce to seal a four-wicket win. Here are the records broken.
This was the 10th loss for Lanka against NZ out of 18 T20Is. This was also the fourth T20I series win for NZ over Lanka. After suffering a 0-3 loss against Pakistan in T20Is last year, this was the third successive series victory for NZ.
Tim Southee extended his lead atop for the most T20I wickets for New Zealand (71). Colin de Grandhomme (59) notched his second career T20I fifty. This was also his highest score in T20Is. Tom Bruce (53) registered his second career T20I fifty. The two shared a 109-run stand for the fourth wicket. This was their third highest fourth-wicket stand in T20Is.
Southee has a 100% win record as captain for New Zealand. In five matches, the pacer has led NZ to five wins. Malinga lost his eighth match as skipper in T20Is out of 16 matches. This was Lanka's 59th T20I loss in the history of the game. It's the most recorded by any side.
Lanka were sailing well at 108/2 at one stage. However, they lost their way and put up only 161. Seth Rance 3/33 was superb. Niroshan Dickwella (39) was the top run-getter for Lanka. In reply, NZ were 38/3 at one stage, before Grandhomme and Bruce stitched a valuable century-plus stand. Santner's 10 from two balls helped NZ win with two balls to spare.
