Australia beat New Zealand by 19 runs, here're records broken!

Australia have made the number one T20 rank their own after beating New Zealand by 19 runs via D/L method in the tri-series final. The Aussies dethroned Pakistan from the top rank. After New Zealand posted 150/9, Australian batsmen made light work of the target scoring 121/3 in 14.4 overs before rain stopped the play. Here are the records were broken in this fixture.

New Zealand falter after winning toss

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. Things looked bright for the Black Caps, when Guptill and Munro got then off to a flying start. However, Australian bowlers stuck and sent Guptill back to the pavilion. New Zealand failed to recover and kept losing regular wickets but Ross Taylor's valiant innings and Ish Sodi's resilience took them to 150/9.

Australia shows their neighbours how its done

Australia, in reply, came out all guns blazing with D'Arcy Short and David Warner sending the Kiwis on a leather hunt. Rain halted play in between but play was resumed after a short delay. Australia lost 3 quick wickets giving the hosts some hope but Maxwell and Finch held their never to take Australia to 121/3 in 14.4 overs before rain abandoned play.

Australia are on top of the world

This is the first time, Australia have scaled the number one ranking in T20Is. Australia started the tournament at a lowly world number 7. The last time, New Zealand defeated Australia in the final of an international cricket tournament was way back in the year 1981. None of the players from current Australia and New Zealand's squad were even born then.

    Australia's best ever winning streak

Australian opener, D'Arcy Short's 28-ball fifty is the fastest in a T20I tournament final. Sri Lankan great, Kumar Sangakkara and England captain Joe Root come second on the list. They have scored a 33-ball fifty in the World T20 finals. This is Australia's sixth straight victory in T20Is, equals their best ever streak in the shortest format of the game.

Australia sees new dawn under David Warner

David Warner has now won 8 of 9 matches as T20I's captain for Australia. The best overall record, with 10 matches as captain, is held by Pakistan's Sarfraz Ahmed who has 14 wins in 17 matches to his name New Zealand's poor record in Auckland continues, the Kiwis have now lost five consecutive T20I matches at Eden Park in Auckland.
