Ons Jabeur to miss 2024 US Open with shoulder injury

Ons Jabeur, the 2022 US Open women's runner-up and former Wimbledon finalist, has withdrawn from this year's tournament due to a shoulder injury. Initially slated as the No. 17 seed in the tournament set to begin on Monday, her withdrawal was confirmed by the US Tennis Association (USTA). The USTA also announced that Elise Mertens will now become the No. 33 seed in place of Jabeur.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Jabeur revealed that her shoulder had not fully healed in time for her to compete at Flushing Meadows. This is not the first time she has had to pull out of a major event due to injury this season.
