What's the story

The Premier League is intensifying as the days pass and match-day 17 was no exception. Arsenal suffered their first defeat since their two opening matches of the season, losing 3-2 to Southampton. City continued their performance with a victory over Everton, while Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 3-1. Here're all the records broken on match-day 17 of the Premier League.

Southampton vs Arsenal

Southampton handed Arsenal a defeat after a long time

This win was important for Southampton as they managed to end their winless streak of 14 matches. They have saved themselves from the relegation zone as of now, and also put an end to Arsenal's 22-match undefeated streak. Arsenal have continued not leading at half-time in any of their league matches, but have scored 27 goals in the second-half of matches, this season's highest.

City vs Everton

Everton were crushed 3-1 by Manchester City

Of all the matches City have played this season, they have won 21, and on all occasions, they managed to score in the first half itself. In the five matches that they did not win, they couldn't find the back of the net in the first half. Gabriel Jesus' goals marked his first since August, ending a run of 11 matches without a goal.

Brighton vs Chelsea

Brighton lose 1-2 to Chelsea at home

The match saw Hazard providing his ninth assist of the season - the highest among all players in the top five European leagues this season. Hazard also ended a seven-game goalless run by netting his eighth goal of the season. Notably, the match saw Chelsea continue their 100% league record against Brighton. Chelsea's 37-goals tally so far is their best since 2014-15, till this stage of the season.

Spurs vs Burnley

Spurs win 1-0 against Burnley, hold on their third spot

Tottenham are making a mark in the league, and despite pushes from Chelsea, are still third on the league table. They have not drawn any of their last 21 EPL fixtures, winning 16 and losing five. Burnley's failure to put a single shot on target is their third such feat this season - no other club has faced this ordeal more than once.

Liverpool vs United

Liverpool thrash United 3-1 at Anfield

Liverpool's 3-1 victory has equaled their biggest victory over United at Anfield since 2011. United have now conceded more goals this season (29) than they did throughout the 2017-18 season (28). The 29 goals conceded by United are their most after 17 matches since the 1962-63 season. Liverpool's 36 shots against United is the highest the club has faced since shot data recording started in 2003-04.
