What's the story

In a first, the historic Brabourne Stadium at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) will be the home ground for Railways in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy. The decision marks a major shift from Railways's traditional venue at New Delhi's Karnail Singh Stadium. The team, placed in Elite Group D, will play three home matches at Brabourne during this season.

Match schedule

A look at home fixtures

Railways will play their first home match against Uttarakhand from October 11-14.

The second match will be a high-profile clash against 42-time champions Mumbai from November 2-5.

The third and final home tie for the season will be against Haryana from January 17-20, 2027.

This is the first time in over three years that Brabourne Stadium will host a Ranji Trophy match, with the last one being between Mumbai and Maharashtra from January 24-27, 2023.

Legacy preservation

Excitement builds for Ranji Trophy return

Mayank Khandwala, vice-chairman of the Cricket Committee at CCI, expressed his excitement over the return of Ranji Trophy to Brabourne Stadium.

"Cricket at CCI is not merely a sport; it is part of the Club's identity," Khandwala was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Khandwala also emphasized their responsibility to preserve this legacy and keep it alive for future generations by bringing premier domestic cricket back to Brabourne.

Past victories

Railways' past performances in Ranji Trophy

The Railways team has won the prestigious Ranji Trophy twice, in 2001-02 and 2004-05.

However, their recent performances have been lackluster as they failed to qualify beyond the league stage of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy.

They finished fourth in Elite Group C with 23 points from seven matches.
