What's the story

Real Madrid has signed 19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. The transfer fee is reported to be a club-record of €140 million. Real will pay €125m plus €15m in add-ons. Diomande has signed a seven-year contract with the Spanish giants, which could eclipse the £115 million (€133.9 million) paid to Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in June 2023.

Career trajectory

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in Diomande

Diomande, who was a target for Liverpool, had an initial bid of £69 million rejected in June.

The teenager was also on Paris Saint-Germain's radar but they withdrew from the race after having a bid rejected and then the player starting talks with Real, having initially being open to joining the Parisans.

Real pushed for the player with Jose Mourinho wanting him and shelled out a whopping fee to land the Ivory Coast international.
