Shikhar Dhawan scores second century
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan scored his second century of the tour, and became the first Indian opener to score two centuries in away tests since Rahul Dravid in England in 2011. His 188-run partnership with KL Rahul was the highest opening stand by any visiting test side in Sri Lanka and first 100-plus opening stand for India in away tests since June 2015.

India's Mr Consistent KL Rahul scored 85 runs, as he hit his seventh consecutive 50-plus score in test matches without scoring a century. He previous scores were 90, 51, 67, 60, 51* and 57.

Pandya scores maiden century, smashes many records
On the second day of the test, Hardik Pandya scored his maiden test century in just 86 balls, becoming the first Indian batsman to score 100 or more runs in the first session of the day. He became the second fastest Indian player to reach the century after Virender Sehwag's 78-ball 100 against West Indies in the year 2006.

Sri Lanka managed to score just 135 runs in their first innings, giving India a humongous lead of 352 runs. India enforced a follow-on second consecutive time in the series. It was their second lowest score against India at home, after 134 runs in Colombo in 2015. SL was bowled out in just 37.5 overs, their third lowest number of overs faced at home.
