Indian opener Rohit Sharma on Saturday scored his sixth Test century in the third and final Test against South Africa in Ranchi. This was his third century of the series, having scored twin in the opening Test in Visakhapatnam. He also continues to be the highest run-scorer of the series, having surpassed 400 runs. Rohit also scripted a milestone en route to his sixth Test century as he scored 2,000 runs in his Test career. In the process, he became the 40th Indian to score 2,000 runs in the format.

Rohit also scripted a unique record as he has hit the most number of sixes in a Test series (17) He went past the previous record held by Shimron Hetmyer of Windies, who had hit 15 against Bangladesh in 2018-19. The previous record among Indian batsmen was held by Harbhajan Singh, who had hit 14 sixes against New Zealand in 2010-11.

Rohit scripted another record with this century, as he has become only the second Indian to score three or more centuries in a Test series. The previous Indian to do so was the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in three different series.

Earlier in the match, India were off to a shaky start, as they lost three wickets when just 39 runs were on the board. While Mayank Agarwal (10) and Cheteshwar Pujara (0) fell victim to pacer Kagiso Rabada, skipper Virat Kohli (12) fell to Anrich Nortje. As of now, the pair of opener Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane have steadied the ship, with their batting.

Rohit continued his record-breaking spree as he has now scored the most runs by an Indian in any series against South Africa. He has gone past 400 runs in this series, as he broke the previous record, held by former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin (388), along with Virender Sehwag (372), Mayank Agarwal (340) and Sachin Tendulkar (326).

Rohit scripted another record as he has now scored the second-most centuries at home (6) without scoring one at overseas. Bangladesh's Mominul Haque (8) holds this record. Rohit is followed by Stanley Jackson and Chandu Borde, with five each.
