Mominul Haque: News

Over the years, Bangladesh has seen many classy players dawning the Test whites but none came close to a certain left-hander from Cox’s Bazar. For a Bangladesh team that craved for a batsman who could provide them stability in the middle-order, Mominul was a godsend. As a youngster, Mominul was always under the radar of Bangladesh’s cricket bosses. His talent and immense potential made him someone to watch out for. His journey from Cox’s Bazar to BKSP, the country’s premier sports institute, to first-class cricket was swift. He made his first-class debut in the 2008-2009 season. Mominul made his international debut in an ODI against West Indies in 2012. His Test debut came against Sri Lanka in 2013. With his style of play suiting Test cricket, it was no surprise that he scored a half-century on his debut. Mominul continued to plunder records in Test cricket as he became the fifth player in Test history to have eleven consecutive fifty-plus scores. He was also the first Bangladesh batsman to score ten Test centuries. In 2019, he was appointed as the captain of the Test team.
