Virat Kohli to be rested after third ODI versus NZ
The Indian cricket team is set to be without its skipper Virat Kohli after the third ODI against New Zealand. This decision has been taken hours after India won the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead the side in his absence. Here's more on the same.
No replacements for Kohli against NZ
Besides the fourth and fifth ODIs against the Kiwis, Kohli is also set to miss out on the T20I series as well. India play three T20Is against the hosts post the 50-over format. The BCCI confirmed today that there will be no replacement for Kohli in the tour. India will therefore make use of the squad they had selected earlier.
Ideal for Kohli to get adequate rest: BCCI
"Considering his workload in the last few months, the team management and Senior selection committee is of the view that it would be ideal for him to get adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia," said the BCCI in a statement.
BCCI has continuously monitored Kohli's workload
The BCCI has carefully monitored Kohli's workload since the beginning of 2018. The board had rested Kohli for the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka in March. He was also left out of India's one-off Test against Afghanistan in June. Kohli also sat out of the Asia Cup in the UAE in September, besides the T20I series against West Indies in November.
