    What's the story

Veteran Indian wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has undergone surgery to fix a fracture he sustained on a right-hand finger during the Day-Night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata last week.

The 35-year-old underwent surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The BCCI confirmed the same via a statement on Wednesday.

Here are further details on the same.

    BCCI

Saha will soon commence his rehabilitation at the NCA

The BCCI confirmed Saha will soon commence his rehabilitation.

"The BCCI Medical Team consulted a hand and wrist specialist and it was suggested that Saha undergoes a surgical fixation of the fracture," the board stated in a press release.

"Subsequently, he underwent a successful surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday and will soon commence his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru," it added.

    Injury

Saha had sustained a similar injury against SA in October

The senior cricketer had sustained a similar injury in the October Test series against South Africa.

The incident happened in the 27th over during the third Test match.

Saha had to walk off after being struck on his right ring finger.

He was replaced by Rishabh Pant.

However, he recovered for the Bangladesh Test series.

India won the Test series 2-0.

    Record

Saha scripted this record during the Day-Night Test

Meanwhile, in the Day-Night Test against Bangladesh, Saha went on to surpass 100 dismissals in the format.

He took a blinder as well after diving to his right on Friday.

He has now raced to 103 dismissals in Tests.

Saha became the fifth Indian to surpass the mark.

He raced to 92 catches in Test cricket.

    Saha injuries

Saha had a difficult time with injuries in recent past

35-year-old Saha was last seen in action for India in the first Test against South Africa at Cape Town in January 2018.

He missed the rest of the series with a hamstring injury.

The Bengal keeper went on to suffer a broken thumb in IPL 2018 and missed out on India's next big assignments in Tests.

Rishabh Pant replaced him as the preferred choice.

    Information

India's next Test assignment is against New Zealand

India's next Test assignment is against New Zealand in February 2020. The first Test starts from February 21. Saha will get ample time in order to prepare himself and get back in business.
