Salman Butt is a former professional cricket player from Pakistan who represented the Pakistan national cricket team between the years 2003 and 2010. The left-handed batsman was born on October 7, 1984, in Punjab and has played 33 Test matches and 78 ODIs in his career span. At the age of 15, Butt played for Lahore Whites in 2000. In September 2003, he made his Test debut against Bangladesh where he registered scores of 12 and 37 in the match. His ODI debut came in 2004 against West Indies. In 2008, he registered his highest score of 136 runs off 124 deliveries in an ODI series against Bangladesh. In July 2010, Butt was appointed as Pakistan’s Test captain in replacement for Shahid Afridi and led the team to victory in the first match against Australia. In 2010, he got involved in a spot-fixing scandal along with Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. Following this, he was immediately removed from the Pakistani captaincy and ODI squad. He was banned from playing all forms of cricket for 10 years and spent 30 months in jail. The ban on the players was lifted in 2015.
