What's the story

South Africa ended 2018 on a high after taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series against Pakistan at home. The Proteas thrashed Pakistan by six wickets to seal the first Test match in Centurion. Needing 149 runs to win, South Africa were helped by Dean Elgar (50) and Hashim Amla (63*). Duanne Olivier thrives in best Test show

26-year-old Duanne Olivier, who featured in just his sixth career Test, picked 6/37 in the first innings. This is now his best innings performance in a Test match. The bowler also picked 5/59 in the second innings. His ended with Test match figures of 11/96. This was his maiden first and second five-wicket haul in Tests.

Kagiso Rabada ended the year with the most Test wickets (52). The number one Test bowler picked six wickets in the match. Rabada now has 157 Test wickets in his career at an average of 21.56.

Record-breaking Steyn zooms to 424 Test wickets

Dale Steyn has become the most successful Test bowler for South Africa. The veteran fast bowler surpassed legend Shaun Pollock (421) for the most Test wickets. Steyn has 424 Test wickets to his name and is the leading wicket-taker in this format by a South African cricketer. He achieved the feat in his 89th Test match.

Amla

Amla amasses 500-run mark in 2018

Hashim Amla scored his 40th career Test fifty and the fifth of 2018. He now has 9,093 runs in Tests and is 172 runs behind former Proteas skipper Graeme Smith (9,265). Amla also went past the 500-run mark in Test cricket in 2018 (510). He is the fourth South African batsman to go past the mark this year.
