What's the story

Team India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has praised coach Gautam Gambhir for his supportive approach. The recently-concluded T20I series in Sri Lanka marked the beginning of this partnership. SKY led India to a 3-0 series win with coach Gambhir at the helm. Suryakumar, who is currently eyeing a Test return, recently stated that "Gambhir gives everyone a free hand" in the side. He spoke to media while taking part in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament.

Coach's influence

SKY credits Gambhir for India's T20I success

SKY, known for his aggressive batting style in T20s, credited Gambhir's supportive approach for the team's success. "I think the way he's played his game has been amazing for India and he understands each player's strengths. He knows what the players like to do on the ground or during practice sessions. So, he's given a free hand to everyone," the Indian batter said.

Test ambitions

SKY's aspirations for Test cricket

Besides, Suryakumar also expressed his ambition to return to the national Test team. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, given that players like Sarfaraz Khan, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rajat Patidar are currently prioritized. Despite this competition, SKY remains undeterred in his quest for a comeback. "There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place and even I want to earn that spot again," he said.

Passion

Love for red-ball cricket

Suryakumar has not participated in a red-ball cricket game since last year's Duleep Trophy due to injuries. However, he remains hopeful that his performance in domestic tournaments will pave his way back into the Test squad. After being appointed as the full-time T20I captain following Rohit Sharma's retirement, SKY led India to a 3-0 T20I series victory against Sri Lanka. "Red-ball cricket has always been my priority," he said.
