India's Harmanpreet, Mandhana to feature in women's BBL
Indian women's cricket team's star players, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, are set to continue their stint with the Women's Big Bash League. These two were recently seen playing for the Indian side at the ICC Women's World T20. India crashed out in the semi-final after losing against England. The duo had a decent campaign though. Here's more.
Mandhana roped in by Hobart Hurricanes
India's opening batswoman, Smriti, has been signed by Hobart Hurricanes. The left-handed player scored 178 runs for India in the World T20 and was the third highest run-scorer. She had earlier appeared for Brisbane Heat in the second edition of the WBBL. The coach of Hurricanes, Salliann Briggs, welcomed Smriti to the side and feels she is an exciting addition to the side.
'I can't wait to see her in purple'
"Mandhana is a proven performer on the world stage, we saw that just last week with her knock against the Aussies. I can't wait to see her in purple, she's an exciting addition not only for us but for the whole competition," Briggs said. Meanwhile, the player is excited as well and stated that she cannot wait to get started for her new team.
Kaur extends her association with Sydney Thunder
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Harman extended her association with Sydney Thunder. She was one of the top scorers for the team in the second season. Kaur had amassed 296 runs from 12 innings at an average of 59.20. The middle order batswoman is a proven match-winner in the shortest format. Kaur was the second highest run-scorer (183) in the recently concluded World T20.
Duo first Indians to sign for WBBL in 2016
Mandhana and Kaur were the first two Indian players to sign for the WBBL in 2016. Smriti did not have a sound debut season after managing just 89 runs in 12 innings in an injury-hit campaign. Kaur scored 107 runs in 7 innings in the third season of the WBBL and also picked 3 wickets. Overall she has played 22 matches.
