Wimbledon Day 6 round-up: Catch all the action here
9 of women's top 10 seeds have been knocked out. This has been the tale of Wimbledon 2018. The latest to join the list is number one seed Simona Halep. In the men's section, Day 6 saw men's big guns Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic seal the deal, whereas, 4th seed Alexander Zverev was knocked out. Here's more from Day 6.
Top seed Halep joins the 'unwanted' list
2018 French Open winner Simona Halep was stunned by Hsieh Su-wei as she became the latest seeded player to get knocked out. The Taiwanese player, who trailed early on, came back strongly to clinch the match 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Hsieh Su-wei was broken seven times, but managed to save the match point. Karolina Pliskova is the only player in top 10 to remain alive.
Wins for Kerber and Ostapenko
11th seed Angelique Kerber overcame Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka 6-2, 6-4. She will next face 21-year-old Belinda Bencic, who won 6-1, 7-6 against 27th seed Carla Suarez Navarro. 2017 French Open title winner Jelena Ostapenko won 6-0, 6-4 against Vitalia Diatchenko.
Nadal, Djokovic advance
Rafael Nadal has ensured that he will keep hold of the men's world number one ranking after surging past Alex de Minaur. The 17-time Slam winner beat the Australian teenager 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. The Spaniard will next play 24-year-old Czech Jiri Vesely. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic beat Kyle Edmund 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 on Centre Court. Djoker will next face Russia's Karen Khachanov.
Zverev knocked out by Gulbis
Men's fourth seed Alexander Zverev was knocked out by Ernests Gulbis in a five-set thriller. Gulbis won the game 7-6, 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. Japan's Kei Nishikori beat Nick Kyrgios 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 to progress through. He was joined by Juan Martin del Potro.
