World Cup: Here are records scripted by Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial role last night, as it was his ton that allowed his side to triumph Windies in the ICC World Cup 2019. As a result of this knock, he cemented his legacy as the greatest Bangladeshi all-rounder of all time. Meanwhile, we have a look at the records he has scripted so far in this tournament.

Second Bangladeshi to score 6,000 runs

As Shakib reached the 6,000 ODI-run mark, he became the second Bangladeshi batsman to achieve this feat, after Tamim Iqbal. The latter has 6,743 runs so far. Shakib also became the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to score 6,000 runs in List A cricket.

Fastest to the double of 6,000 runs and 250 wickets

Shakib had already scripted the fastest to double of 5,000 runs and 250 wickets in ODIs against Proteas on June 2. He bettered the record with the fastest to double of 6,000 runs and 250 wickets in ODIs on Monday. He has achieved the feat in 202 matches, surpassing Shahid Afridi's record of 294 matches. Afridi is followed by Jacques Kallis and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Shakib second Bangladeshi to hit World Cup century

Shakib also became the second Bangladeshi to hit a World Cup century, post his knock against England in the last game. Mahmudullah was the only Bangladeshi World Cup centurion to date, who scored it in the 2015 edition. Interestingly, both have scored two World Cup centuries to date, while both have come on back to back occasions.

Second fastest century this World Cup

Shakib's century against Windies on Monday was also the second fastest century of the tournament this year. Shakib scored the ton off 83 deliveries. The fastest century of this tournament has been scripted by England's Jos Buttler, who scored it off 75 deliveries.

Shakib also scripts records with half-centuries

Shakib had scored a half-century against New Zealand. He now has the joint most consecutive 50s in the ODIs, sharing the record with Tamim, as both have five consecutive ones. Also, Shakib has become the fourth batsman to score four consecutive half-centuries in the World Cup, in the opening four innings, after Navjot Sidhu (1987), Sachin Tendulkar (1996) and Graeme Smith (2007).

    One century to become great

Shakib is now the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to score consecutive ODI centuries after Shahriar (2006), Mahmudullah (2015) and Tamim Iqbal (2015). Also with the ton, he became the batsman to score most runs for Bangladesh in a single edition of the World Cup. In the league matches itself, Shakib has gone past Mahmudullah's 365-run mark in 2015.
