Bhutan breaks Guinness record building 108 stupas in 9 hours
World
Bhutan just smashed a Guinness World Records by building and consecrating 108 Buddhist stupas in only nine hours along the Mau Chhu River in Gelephu.
Teams of volunteers started at 3am working together across different sites, while monks performed traditional blessings once the structures were up.
Gelephu plan blends economy and spirituality
This wasn't just about breaking records: 108 is a special number in Buddhism, symbolizing overcoming human desires.
The project is part of Bhutan's plan for Gelephu Mindfulness City, blending economic growth with spiritual roots.
These new stupas are set to become lasting landmarks and a reminder of Bhutan's deep connection to its traditions.
