Bismarck unveils 1st life-size Mahatma Gandhi statue in Peace Park
World
North Dakota just got its first life-size Mahatma Gandhi statue, now standing in Peace Park in downtown Bismarck.
The project was a team effort by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, the Indian-American community, and the North Dakota Trade Office.
The unveiling brought out some big names too, like North Dakota First Lady Kjersti Armstrong and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
Signals growing India North Dakota ties
Peace Park already had a Peace Pole honoring 9/11 victims, but this new Gandhi statue adds to a small group of similar monuments across the region.
It's also a sign of how ties between India and North Dakota are growing, through collaborations in farming, business, education, and events like Yoga Day that bring both communities closer together.
