Foysol Ahmed jailed 8 years after nearly £1.5m gold scam
A 37-year-old man, Foysol Ahmed, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for scamming a Gloucestershire woman out of nearly £1.5 million in gold.
Pretending to be a police detective, Ahmed convinced her over several months that she was helping with an investigation into fake gold, so she kept buying more, bit by bit.
Foysol Ahmed admitted 5 fraud counts
Instead of letting the victim take out a huge loan, Ahmed advised her to take out a loan for £700,000 and encouraged smaller purchases to keep things under the radar.
He was finally caught during a phone call while police listened in.
Ahmed admitted to five counts of fraud and will also face a future Proceeds of Crime Act hearing and Criminal Behaviour Order application.
Police say he was part of a bigger fraud network and praised the victim's courage throughout this tough ordeal.
