Paraguay President Santiago Pena seeks 72 more hours amid impeachment
World
Paraguay's President Santiago Pena is facing impeachment after a huge banking scandal rocked the country.
He's now asking for 72 extra hours to get his defense ready, saying the process feels rushed and unfair.
The Senate is weighing his request, while the whole situation has left many Paraguayans on edge.
Paraguay central bank seizes Ueno Bank
The trouble started when Ueno Bank was taken over by the central bank on November 3, freezing accounts for about 3 million people, almost half the country.
Pena used to hold a stake in a group that controlled the bank but sold his shares in 2025.
Since then, top bank officials have been arrested and protests have broken out across cities.
Pena even tried to resign earlier this week, but that move is on hold until impeachment talks wrap up.
