UK couple beats 24 trillion-to-1 odds to win lottery again
What's the story
Richard Davies and Faye Stevenson, a couple from Wales, have won the United Kingdom's National Lottery for the second time. Their first win was in June 2018 when they won £1 million (approximately $1.3 million) playing EuroMillions Millionaire Maker. This time, they matched five main numbers and the bonus ball in a Lotto draw, with odds of over 24 trillion to one against them.
Winning strategy
Couple's second win came through a series of draws
Davies explained that their second win was not just about picking the right numbers. "It came to us through a series of four consecutive Lotto draws," he said. They matched two numbers in one draw, which won them a free Lucky Dip for the next game, and this process continued until they hit the jackpot on November 26.
Community commitment
Davies and Stevenson remain community-focused despite winnings
Despite their massive windfall, the couple continues to be active in their community. Davies, a former hairdresser, uses his skills at a shelter for the homeless, which received National Lottery funding. He also works as a delivery driver. Stevenson, an ex-nurse, is a volunteer cook at Cegin Hedyn community kitchen in Carmarthen and provides mental health counseling services to local organizations such as Brecon & District Mind charity.
Past impact
Couple's first win allowed them to help others
Their first win allowed them to help others by gifting cars, donating a minibus to a local rugby team, and helping friends and family. Stevenson said it was "amazing to be able to make a difference." She added that they would take their time deciding how to spend this new prize money but would continue working through Christmas.
