US Rep Khanna condemns Hindu nationalism, backs Indian student protests
US Congressman Ro Khanna is making headlines for speaking out against Hindu nationalism and supporting student protests in India that call for anti-corruption and more inclusivity.
Responding to criticism online, he shared that his views on pluralism come from his grandfather's involvement in Gandhi's independence movement, saying, "I have unequivocally condemned Hindu nationalism & applauded the students in the streets speaking out against corruption and for inclusion," and "My grandfather was part of Gandhi's independence movement and I believe in Gandhi and Nehru's vision of pluralism."
Run Ro campaign urges Khanna 2028
There's also buzz about a "Run Ro" campaign encouraging Khanna to run for president in 2028, led by former Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman of New York and progressive strategist Nomiki Konst.
While he hasn't made anything official yet, the grassroots energy is growing.
Khanna recently weighed in on the Democrats's big midterm win too: he credits it to voters rejecting Trump-era politics and wanting real economic progress.
