USCIRF warns of vigilante gurdwara attacks, Ludhiana police disagree
The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) is worried about what it calls "vigilante attacks" on Sikh gurdwaras in India, suggesting these are driven by religious animosity.
They're urging the US to consider how India handles such incidents before offering security support.
But police in Ludhiana have looked into recent gurdwara incidents and have not established a coordinated campaign of religiously motivated attacks, including one case in which police alleged the gurdwara's own head sewadar orchestrated a shooting to secure police protection.
USCIRF urges US pressure on India
The USCIRF wants the US to push India on protecting religious minorities, saying it would send a strong message.
However, police findings point to isolated conflicts, not a wider trend of religious violence.
