White House installs plaques mocking Obama, Biden
What's the story
The White House has put up controversial plaques inside the complex, targeting former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The plaques were displayed below presidential portraits on President Donald Trump's newly installed "Presidential Walk of Fame" in the White House colonnade. One plaque calls Biden "Sleepy Joe Biden" and accuses him of being "the worst President in American History." It also mentions his alleged mental decline and links him to the so-called "Biden Crime Family."
Biden's portrayal
Plaques detail Biden's presidency, criticize immigration policies
The plaque further claims that Biden's presidency was marred by disasters, including inflation and controversial immigration policies. It also criticizes his handling of Afghanistan and implies that his weakness led to international crises in Ukraine and Israel. The plaque ends by mentioning Biden's poor debate performance against Trump in June 2024, leading to his withdrawal from the re-election campaign.
Other targets
Obama and Clinton also targeted by White House plaques
Obama's plaque refers to him as "Barack Hussein Obama" and calls him "one of the most divisive figures in American history." It criticizes his policies, including Obamacare, which it calls "the highly ineffective 'Unaffordable' Care Act." The plaque also repeats Trump's conspiracy theory about Obama spying on his 2016 campaign. It says he "presided over the creation of the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, the worst political scandal in American History."

Newly installed plaques in the White House bash Presidents Biden and Obama. Karoline Leavitt said "The plaques are eloquently written.... As a student of history, many were written directly by the President himself.”https://t.co/9hqGd7rp5U pic.twitter.com/nl68Ni97Cl

Trump's portrayal
Trump's plaques portray his presidency in glowing terms
In contrast, Trump's plaques paint a rosy picture of his presidency. It claimed he "signed the Largest Tax Cuts in History, built a booming Economy, eliminated a record number of Federal Regulations, rebuilt the United States Military, terminated the Iran Nuclear Deal and the Paris Climate Accords, ended the NAFTA disaster, destroyed the ISIS Caliphate, signed the historic Abraham Accords, and created the Greatest Economy in the History of the World."
Plaques
Plaque boasts about Trump's second term
The plaque also boasts of Trump's second term, including his tariffs and hardline immigration policies, and states that he "removed Critical Race Theory and transgender insanity from public schools, and banned men from women's sports." "He began the construction of the Golden Dome missile defense shield, renamed the Gulf of Mexico...and has built, right here at the White House, the magnificent Trump Presidential Ballroom after a 225 year wait — but THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"
Political response
Mixed reactions from Republicans to White House plaques
The new plaques have received mixed reactions from Republicans. Senator Lisa Murkowski expressed concern over the plaques, saying they redefine the contributions of former presidents. On the other hand, Senator Lindsey Graham dismissed them as a non-issue and shifted focus to upcoming elections. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told NBC News that Trump himself wrote the text for "many" of the plaques. "The plaques are eloquently written descriptions of each President and the legacy they left behind," she said.
