Audi will introduce these cars in 2026
What's the story
Audi has announced its plan to launch three new models in 2026. The lineup includes the next-generation Q7 and the first-ever Q9, as well as an entry-level electric vehicle (EV). The announcement comes after a disappointing sales performance for the brand. Last year, Audi's sales fell by 11.8% to 1.67 million vehicles and have continued to decline this year.
Design approach
Design language will remain unchanged
Audi's new models will stick to the current design language, which features split headlights and screen-heavy interiors. This is because vehicle designs are usually finalized two to three years before launch. The next-gen Q7 and Q9 will be powered by combustion engines, with diesel versions likely in Europe where diesel engines are still relevant for large luxury vehicles.
EV debut
RS derivatives and PHEVs on the horizon
Audi's most affordable EV will sit below the Q4 E-Tron, serving as a pseudo A2 revival. However, it won't adopt Audi's new design language introduced by the Concept C. The company is also preparing RS derivatives for existing cars, with the RS5 being a likely candidate for 2026. The next RS6 could also make its debut next year as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
Market approach
Shift from fully electric strategy to hybrid approach
Audi has reversed its earlier plan to go fully electric by 2033. CEO Gernot Dollner recently hinted that ICE models could be produced well into the next decade. This strategy is aimed at catering to a wider range of customer preferences in these uncertain times.
