Bengaluru's Shunya eVTOL: Air taxis are getting real
Sarla Aviation just started ground testing its SYLLA SYL-X1, a sub-scale demonstrator for the Shunya eVTOL program, in Bengaluru.
The goal? To have these electric air taxis flying commercially by 2028, making city travel faster and more futuristic.
What makes Shunya eVTOL cool?
Shunya can seat six passengers plus a pilot, zips along at up to 250km/h, and covers 160km on a single charge—ideal for quick hops within cities like Mumbai or Delhi.
Its hybrid mode stretches the range to 800km, and the cabin can be swapped out for cargo or even ambulance use.
How much will it cost?
Sarla Aviation has raised $13 million to get things moving.
At launch, fares should be similar to premium cab rides, but they're aiming to make it as affordable as an auto-rickshaw in the long run.
They also plan to offer free air ambulance services with this tech.
