BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme records 503.17 kph, fastest production car
The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme just set a new world record as the fastest production car, hitting 503.17 kph in Abu Dhabi.
German racer Marc Basseng was behind the wheel when the electric hypercar became the first production car and first production electric car to cross the 500 kph mark, beating its own previous record from last year.
The achievement was officially recognized by four Guinness World Records and recognized by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, or FIA.
Four motors produce over 3,000hp
This insane speed comes from a setup of four electric motors and a powerful 1,200-volt system, giving over 3,000hp.
The team prepped hard with road checks and fine-tuned aerodynamics and suspension for maximum performance.
Special tires made with Giti Tire helped keep things stable at such high speeds, showing off some serious engineering skills from BYD's luxury brand.
