Mercedes, Audi, Volvo reject Apple's CarPlay Ultra
Big names like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Polestar, and Renault are skipping Apple's new CarPlay Ultra system.
Unlike the regular CarPlay that just works with your car's infotainment screen, Ultra wants to run the whole dashboard—and automakers aren't thrilled about handing over that much control or data.
Renault even told Apple not to "invade our own systems."
Meanwhile, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and Porsche are on board; others like Jaguar Land Rover are still deciding.
CarPlay Ultra is not available in all vehicles
CarPlay Ultra only works if you have an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 18.5 or above.
It connects wirelessly and puts info like speed and climate controls right alongside your favorite Apple apps across multiple screens.
More features are coming in iOS 26—but it all depends on whether your car brand actually supports it.
