Tesla cracks Consumer Reports's top 10 for reliability

Auto

For the first time ever, Tesla has landed in the top 10 of Consumer Reports's reliability rankings, jumping from 17th to 9th out of 26 brands.
This leap comes thanks to improvement in its build quality and what the magazine called a "standout" electric drive system—though some owners are still grumbling about those tricky electronic doors.

Older models help boost Tesla's reputation

Tesla's habit of keeping older models like the Model S around (with steady tweaks instead of big redesigns) is paying off.
As Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports' senior director for auto testing, puts it, these ongoing improvements have made Teslas more dependable—even if this isn't how most carmakers do things.
Despite the Cybertruck's shaky start, Tesla also made it into the top 10 on Consumer Reports' overall "automotive report card," which factors in road tests and safety too.
