What's the story

Maharashtra has been referred to as India's start-up capital by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with nearly 45% of its registered start-ups led by women. This statement was made during the launch of a pre-incubation center and a one-day 'Innovation Mahakumbh' at SNDT Women's University in Juhu. He emphasized the government's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth.

Entrepreneurial support

Pre-incubation center to boost student start-up ideas

Fadnavis said the pre-incubation center would help students develop their start-up ideas, build prototypes, and prepare for incubation programs with financial and technical support. He stressed that every new idea from the youth has the potential to become an innovation. "This is the age of start-ups, and everyone has the opportunity to be an entrepreneur," he added.

Government initiatives

State government backing for young entrepreneurs

The CM also highlighted that the state government is actively supporting young entrepreneurs through focused policies and funding mechanisms. He said, "When ideas turn into market-ready products, they not only simplify life but also fuel economic growth." Fadnavis credited universities like SNDT for nurturing student-led innovation during his visit to the event where he interacted with student innovators and reviewed over 140 start-up ideas developed by SNDT students.

At the event, Fadnavis also honored three students with promising start-ups in the fields of medical technology, agriculture, and transport. The event was attended by several dignitaries including Skill Development Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha and Union Education Ministry Joint Secretary Armstrong Pame. Lodha said Maharashtra is making rapid strides in education and innovation, and expressed confidence that the state will soon become a leader in these sectors.
