CBDT announces ITR-BN form for block assessments effective April 1, 2026

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) just introduced ITR-BN, a special income tax return form for taxpayers covered under block assessment proceedings following search and seizure operations.

Announced on July 24, 2026, this new rule kicks in on April 1, 2026, aiming to make things clearer and more straightforward for anyone facing a block assessment.

ITR-BN requires reporting hidden income

With ITR-BN, you will need to report any hidden income (like extra salary, business earnings, or assets) under specific categories.

The form asks for your PAN and Aadhaar details plus information on past returns.
