Delhi HC halts Amazon's ₹340 cr trademark case payment

Business

Amazon just got a breather from the Delhi High Court, which paused a massive ₹340 crore damages order over trademark infringement.
The case was brought by Lifestyle Equities, who claimed Amazon let Cloudtail India use a horse logo that looked too much like the Beverly Hills Polo Club (BHPC) brand.

Amazon wasn't even part of trial

Amazon argued they only licensed the logo and weren't involved in actually selling any products.
The court noticed that the earlier ruling was one-sided—Amazon wasn't even part of the trial—and said it's not fair to decide such a big penalty without hearing both sides.
The next hearing is set for October 19, 2023, and it could shape how online platforms are held responsible for trademark issues in India.
