Employee steals ₹5.72cr gold coins, lies to boss about orders
Sunil Gupta, 44, was arrested after allegedly cheating his boss at a Goregaon East corporate gifting company out of ₹5.72 crore.
Police say Gupta forged purchase orders and took 7kg of 24-carat gold coins that were supposed to be gifts for a pharma client.
He was taken into custody on October 1 after his employer, Naresh Jain, filed a police complaint last month.
Gupta claimed he'd landed big orders from Macleods Pharmaceuticals
Gupta claimed he'd landed big orders from Macleods Pharmaceuticals and used fake paperwork to get two huge batches of gold: one in 2024 (3,400g worth ₹2.47cr) and another in 2025 (3,600g worth ₹3.17cr).
Jain got only part payment for the first batch and nothing for the second; when pressed, Gupta admitted the orders were fake and that he'd kept the gold himself—which still hasn't been recovered.
His bail hearing is set for October 7 as police confirm Macleods never placed any orders, leaving Jain facing major losses while the investigation continues.
