Ex-NVIDIA exec launches new AI chips to take on NVIDIA's best
Zhang Jianzhong, who used to work at NVIDIA, is now shaking things up with his own company, Moore Threads.
He just unveiled the Huashan AI chips—built to rival NVIDIA's top models like Hopper and Blackwell.
These chips are set for mass production in 2026 and can connect over 100,000 units together, making them a big deal for next-gen AI data centers.
Why it matters:
This launch is a major move for China's tech scene as it pushes for more independence from US-made chips.
The Huashan chips use new Huagang architecture, promising way better performance and energy efficiency—think 50% more computing power and 10 times better energy efficiency.
Moore Threads also rolled out upgrades to its MUSA platform with the Lushan GPU and Changjiang SoC chip, fresh off a successful IPO—a sign that investors are betting big on homegrown innovation.
