Explained: Qatar Airways's shift from Boeing to Airbus
Qatar Airways has decided to drop its order for 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets, mainly because ongoing certification delays mean these planes won't arrive until at least 2026.
The airline originally placed the order in 2022 to boost its regional routes during a dispute with Airbus, but now says it's rethinking how to handle its short-haul fleet.
Qatar's new fleet strategy
With the old Airbus disagreement settled, Qatar Airways is bringing Airbus back into the mix—reviving an order for 50 A321neos set to start arriving in 2026.
At the same time, they're sticking with Boeing for bigger planes, locking in deals for over a hundred new Dreamliners and more Boeing 777-9s.
CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer summed it up: Airbus will handle most of their shorter flights, while Boeing will power their long-haul journeys.
