What's the story

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has revamped its biometric authentication process for new GST registration applicants. Now, promoters and directors of certain business entities can complete their mandatory biometric verification at any GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) in their home state. Earlier, they had to visit a GSK meant for their jurisdiction. The new facility applies to promoters/directors listed in promoter/partner tab for Public Limited Companies, Private Limited Companies, Unlimited Companies and Foreign Companies.

Improved process

Enhanced convenience for GST registration applicants

The new biometric authentication process will provide additional convenience to GST registration applicants. Those who are selected for biometric verification will be notified via email. Eligible promoters and directors can then use the link in this email to choose a GSK within their home state. Notably, this selection is a one-time choice and cannot be changed later on.

Implementation details

Availability and requirements of the new facility

The new biometric authentication facility is available in 33 states and UTs where such verification is enabled. It will soon expand its services to Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim. On selecting a GSK, applicants will get a confirmation email and a link to book a new slot. Promoters, directors must complete their biometric authentication before their Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS) visits the GSK. If the PAS is also the promoter/director, they must visit their jurisdictional GSK.
