India, Australia in talks for new Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement

Business

India and Australia are in talks for a new Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) that could take their trade partnership to the next level.
The latest round of discussions happened in Melbourne, with both countries looking to expand collaboration in goods, services, investment, and skills—building on the current Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).

CECA could create more jobs and boost supply chains

This deal could seriously open up opportunities for both sides.
Right now, most Indian imports from Australia and Australian exports to India already get duty-free access thanks to ECTA—and by 2026, almost everything will be tariff-free.
With CECA, expect even more growth: last year alone saw India's exports to Australia jump 14%, and recent years have seen continued export growth.
If finalized, CECA could mean more jobs, better supply chains across the Indo-Pacific region, and fresh chances for young professionals in everything from tech to trade.
