India-EU FTA talks on track for December completion
India and the European Union are making steady progress on their Free Trade Agreement, with hopes to wrap things up by December 2025.
The latest round of talks in Brussels tackled tariffs and other trade barriers, though some sensitive sectors are still off the table for now.
More negotiation rounds are lined up for November in New Delhi, and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is expected in Brussels later this month.
Wider economic benefits and regional infrastructure projects at stake
This deal could make it easier—and cheaper—for goods and services to flow between India and the EU, which already traded a massive €120 billion ($139 billion) worth of goods last year.
It's also about bigger goals: both sides want deeper economic ties and smoother investment flows.
There are hurdles—like disagreements over climate-linked trade rules—but closing this deal could boost jobs, tech access, and even support broader regional infrastructure ambitions, such as projects connecting India to Europe through the Middle East.
