India-UK trade agreement expected in July
India and the UK are gearing up to sign a major free trade agreement by the end of July.
This deal could double trade between the two countries to $120 billion by 2030, making it easier for Indian goods like leather, footwear, and clothing to enter the UK, while also cutting tariffs on British products such as whisky and cars.
TL;DR
Agreement to be approved by both countries
Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal is in London right now, working with his UK counterpart to wrap up final details.
Once signed, both countries will need about a year to officially approve the agreement before it kicks in.
The full text will be made public after signing, so everyone can see what's inside.
