Indian firm suing US-based AI company over trademark violation
Belagavi-based Anthropic Software Pvt. Ltd. is suing US tech heavyweight Anthropic PBC, claiming it's been using the Anthropic name since 2017 for its AI education platforms and now faces customer confusion as the American company grows its presence.
The Indian firm says the overlap is hurting its brand and causing mix-ups online.
Lawsuit filed in early 2026
The lawsuit was filed in early 2026, but the court declined to grant an interim injunction.
After the US company skipped a hearing, fresh summons were sent to its Bengaluru office asking the company to appear in court on March 23, 2026.
Alongside damages of ₹90 lakh, the Indian company wants official recognition as first user of Anthropic in India and is seeking recognition of prior use and remedies for brand confusion.
Next hearing: March 23, 2026, so this story isn't over yet.
