Maharashtra expands green data center policy statewide, targets 30-40 GW
Maharashtra just took its green data center policy beyond Mumbai, opening it up to the whole state and bumping up the number of eligible projects from three to 20.
The big goal? Powering 30 to 40 GW of data centers with green energy by 2047.
Maharashtra offers ₹1/unit, 51% green energy
The revamped policy offers major incentives: think ₹1 per unit electricity subsidy for 20 years for projects involving investments of ₹60,000 crore or more and a ₹1 per unit power tariff concession for 10 years for integrated green data center parks with investments of ₹30,000 crore,
a 4% interest subsidy on term loans for 10 years, with an annual cap of ₹25 crore, for developers of such parks.
Plus, the mandatory use of green energy is now set at a more doable 51% (down from 100%), and developers don't have to reserve land for incubation centers anymore.
All these changes are meant to make it easier (and more appealing) for big players to build eco-friendly data centers across Maharashtra.
