OPC registrations in India jump 20% this year

India's One Person Companies (OPCs) are having a moment—registrations jumped 20% this year, reaching 71,745 by August 31, up from 60,084 in the previous year.
It's a sign that more solo entrepreneurs are making things official and moving beyond informal businesses.

The overall number of new companies in India also grew by 10% to hit 19.4 lakh.
But OPCs are growing even faster—they've more than doubled since 2020, thanks to their simple setup (no board needed) and limited liability perks.
A recent Bombay High Court ruling confirmed these protections for OPC owners, which experts say is boosting trust and making it easier for entrepreneurs to raise funds or manage debt.
