Samsung and BOE call truce in OLED patent fight
Business
Samsung Display and China's BOE Technology have finally settled their long-running OLED patent dispute.
After nearly three years of legal back-and-forth over alleged patent infringement and stolen trade secrets, both companies agreed on November 20 to drop all lawsuits and focus on fair competition instead.
Why this matters
Earlier this year, the US International Trade Commission ruled that BOE had violated Samsung's patents, which almost led to a US import ban on BOE OLED panels.
With the settlement, both sides appear to have asked to end the investigation.
This move is part of a bigger push in the tech world to protect display technology secrets and reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturers—especially as South Korea cracks down on tech leaks to China.
