US slaps new tariff on Canada over ad dispute

Business

The US just announced a fresh 10% tariff on Canadian imports, after an ad aired in Ontario used edited audio from a 1987 Ronald Reagan speech to criticize tariffs—without permission.
The Reagan Foundation is not happy and might take legal action.
This latest move adds to earlier US tariffs set in 2025.

Tensions rise as trade talks get canceled

This new tariff comes right after President Trump canceled trade talks with Canada just days earlier, sparking even more tension between the two neighbors.
While most goods usually move freely under the USMCA deal, these ongoing tariffs are making things pricier for businesses and consumers on both sides.
Canada had tried to ease things by dropping some of its own counter-tariffs but kept them on big sectors like steel and autos.
With both countries trading jabs over ads and policy, uncertainty is growing—and that could mean higher costs or delays for everyday stuff you buy.
